    Description

    Wm. Pond Antique Wooden Flute.
This D flute was apparently made in New York between 1850 and 1870. It is made of boxwood and has one brass key that works fine. These small holed 19th Century American flutes have gained in popularity in recent years. This flute has no tuning slide, but seems to be pitched at A=440 fully assembled and the head joint can be pulled back for anyone who plays sharper than I do. The flute plays very easily and has a very nice tone, albeit not as loudly as most larger holed modern flutes. The repair to the crack was done by Dave Copley several years ago. The near edge of the embouchure has same wear, but the far edge is pretty clean.
